Font - My boss told me to be LESS enthusiastic about working Yeah exactly what the title says... my boss called me into his office and spoke to me about my worth ethic.

Font - I am the type of person to go above and beyond. I like to work and I want to bring the best I can to the team and give it my all. I tend to work very fast and complete my assignments very quickly and effectively. My boss will dump work on my and I end up completing it within a couple of hours, some thing that takes him a week to do.

Font - My boss informed me to please stop reply to so many emails and that it would be better to leave some emails unanswered and as well to try and work slower. He says I should be doing all this or else people will expect more from the team. He has told me try not to go all in, I know you like your job and everything but you are going wild with this and its starting to effect the ethics in the office. So I am being told to work less.. so confused.. I was given a verbal warning.

Font - h311ion 21 hr. ago As someone who used to go above and beyond and get absolutely nothing for it except more work, I'd listen to your boss. Spend that effort during work hours towards something else you're interested in learning or doing. 44.1k Reply Share

Font - nillerwafer 19 hr. ago . OP is probably pretty young, they haven't realized that working the way they're working is a recipe for the kind of burnout that's really hard to bounce back from. It's downright unsustainable. I used to be like OP, I learned my lesson the hard way. 2.0k Reply Share

Font - Enthusiast9 22 hr. ago Listen, you go to work to do a job and to get paid. If the boss says do less work to make the team look like a pos so everyone else can work less, do it. lol Just bring some ear buds with you and watch a movie like I do while I work. 1.2k Reply Share

Font - GlesgaD2018 22 hr. ago This. Performance is a bell curve. You might be one of the SD-3, top 5%, but yeah, that might wreck the curve for everyone else and make everyone's lives a bit harder. Chill out. Do things that will get you noticed for promotion. Pick up a project. Something that won't reflect poorly on others but will let you shine. 426 Reply Share

Font - ReedRidge 22 hr. ago He does not want the entire group to HAVE to work like you, makes sense. Some do not see the work as being more important than the life. 535 Reply Share

Font - aneldermillenial 21 hr. ago If you're like me and you have a hard time not putting your all into your work, this will be hard, and if this hadn't happened, you'd likely ended up with a very major burnout at some point.

Font - If you intend to stay there: 1. Create a list of tasks to get done every day based on the workload that aligns with the rest of the team. Maybe add one or two more things if you're looking to move up, but nothing that will lead to another conversation with your boss. 2. Schedule the tasks out across the day. 3. Use the rest of your time to brush up on other interests/skills to help you in the next steps of your life and/or career.

Font - Remember that a job is nothing more than a contractual agreement between two parties: you complete x tasks, and in exchange, they give you x monies. Don't hang your feelings of self-worth on a job. 188 Reply Share

Font - 4_spotted_zebras 19 hr. ago Do you respond to each and every single email with things like "thank you" or "ok"? Not every email needs a response. You may be flooding people's inboxes with unimportant replies. 175 Reply Share

Font - Irishvalley 21 hr. ago Right now you have the energy to work fast and accurate. Trouble is working as fast and accurate as you can is not being a team player. Your team mates likely work slow to keep from burning out. They realize there is no promotion or bonus for doing more in less time.

Font - Unless there is a productivity bonus it is not in your best interest to work at full productivity capacity. Ask your boss if there is approval for online training related to your position. Find some free training as an example. This will keep you busy. Provide personal growth. And keep you from making enemies at work.

Font - I too am a try hard that likes to be busy. It is difficult to learn how to go the pace your team has set. It is important though because full speed all the time is how burnout happens. 112 Reply Share

Font - auntgoat 18 hr. ago Dude he's trying to save you. Never give your job more than 70% effort unless it's commission based sales or you get equity compensation. 1. Nobody on the team likes a kiss

Font - 2. You're not always going to be able to perform at a super high level, don't shoot yourself in the foot 3. MOST IMPORTANT you're making the same pay as your most slacker coworker. You are busting your for free. Under no circumstances will this be "noticed" and result in a promotion.

Font - 4. In fact if you get department the expectations increased you may not be able to be promoted at all because you'll be too necessary in your current spot (no additional income) 107 Reply Share
